Mu Sigma Rho

University of Arizona Chapter

Mu Sigma Rho is the National Statistics Honor Society, founded in 1968. Since then Mu Sigma Rho has grown and now serves a wide variety of universities across the United States. The University of Arizona Chapter was established in April 2021. Its purpose is to celebrate those who have made significant academic achievements within the field of statistics.

Benefits for Joining Mu Sigma Rho

Our University of Arizona GIDP in Statistics and Data Science will sponsor any eligible student’s initiation fees mentioned in the membership criteria below. Thus, joining Mu Sigma Rho will be entirely free!

Benefits for joining Mu Sigma Rho include:

  • Completely free to join

  • Initiation requires no paper work and being a member requires little to no time commitment

  • Membership provides recognition for your academic achievements within statistics courses, worthy of being included in your resume or curriculum vitae

  • Certificate from the National Society to recognize the honor

  • Free 1 year membership to the American Statistical Association (ASA)

Eligibility Criteria

The national level organization determines the eligibility criteria

Undergraduate Students (1 semester hour = 1 semester credit)

  • At least 2 years of college course work

  • At least 8 semester hours (12 quarter hours) of statistics courses, of which at least 5 semester hours (7 quarter hours) shall be junior level statistics course work

  • At least a 3.40 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in all undergraduate level
    statistics courses

  • At least a 3.20 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in all undergraduate
    level courses

Graduate Students (1 semester hour = 1 semester credit)

  • At least 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of graduate level statistics
    courses

  • At least a 3.50 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in all graduate level statistics
    courses

  • Be a graduate student in good standing.

To help you determine whether you meet the requirements you can access a list of all the acceptable statistical courses offered at University of Arizona by clicking on the "Acceptable Class List" tab at the top of the page. Transfer credits also may count, but these will be handled on a case by case basis by the officers of Mu Sigma Rho.
