8th Grade English Curriculum

Welcome to middle school English! I am so excited to work together this year on writing, vocabulary and grammar! In this course, students will continue to develop and sharpen their writing skills, focusing on the various elements of effective writing, such as purpose, audience, genre, word choice and tone. Students will apply these various elements of effective writing in their own writing after reading mentor texts-- speeches, poems, news articles and more-- that teach those same elements. We will learn vocabulary in a way that is individual, creative, achievable, and will stick with you for years to come. Our grammar instruction requires active engagement in various grammatical concepts  and includes fun Grammar Trivia. Students apply their grammatical and vocabulary knowledge in their Year Long Story, a creative piece that they will build on throughout the year.
