Policy: Nursing Program Waiver Policy for Unsuccessful Senior Students in their Final Semester

Effective Date: May 2025

This policy addresses the procedure and stipulations for granting a waiver for Level IV (fourth

semester) ADN students and Level II (second semester) PN students who have failed a course

in their final semester of the program. These students fall into one of two categories (see

below):

I. For students who become program ineligible in their final semester of the program:

When a Level IV student in the ADN program or a Level II student in the PN program has failed a

course in their last semester of the program, and this is their second failure in the program

(rendering the student “program ineligible”) the student will be permitted to apply for

immediate reinstatement into the program the following semester, without sitting out a

semester as is the usual policy.

● The student should be referred to the Healthcare Pathway handbook for steps on

following the program readmission procedure.

● The student must also notify the director of the nursing program that they have

submitted their readmission paperwork and are requesting a waiver to enroll in the

following semester.

II. For students in their final semester of the program and who have been granted

readmission previously:

When a nursing student has already been readmitted to the program at an earlier point in their

education, and has failed ONE course in their last semester of the program, the student may

petition the Nursing Program Readmission Committee for immediate reinstatement in the

program.

● The student must notify the director of the nursing program that they are requesting a

waiver to enroll in the following semester.

Note:

● Students who are requesting a waiver must submit their request within two weeks of

the end of the semester.

● This waiver will only be granted once.

*A student who is dismissed from a program due to violation of safety and/or professional

standards is not eligible to apply for readmission to the Nursing Program. All readmission

decisions are final.
