The emphasis on advanced pathophysiology and critical thinking skills is a cornerstone of our programs. This method will help you understand the 'why' behind the medical conditions you encounter and will prepare you to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
Our Associate's Degree and Technical Diploma programs both provide a good mix of theory and practice. This not only prepares you for the challenges of the field, but also for the cognitive exams required for paramedic certification.

Paramedic Course Outline
These are the core classes for the paramedic program which total 38 credits. An additional 3 credit social science course is required to complete the technical diploma. Additional classes are needed to complete the associate's degree, which totals 60 credits.
Required SOCSCI Class: SOCSCI-172 Introduction to Diversity Studies
A three credit social science class is required to complete the MATC Paramedic Diploma. The specific class is SOCSCI- 172 Introduction to Diversity Studies. In some cases, an alternate social science class may be used to meet this requirement. If you have prior social science coursework at MATC or outside of MATC that may meet this requirement, please contact the pathway office. If the coursework is outside of MATC, you will need to have a transcript sent to MATC.
If you need to take this class, you are encouraged to do so prior to the start of the paramedic program as the program itself has a high credit load. If unable to do so, it is suggested that you consult with the lead instructor for your cohort about when it would be best to take the class so as to not distract from your paramedic studies. The SOCSCI-172 class is not offered every semester. If it is not available for the semester you intend to take it, contact the pathway office to determine if there is an alternative class that can be taken.
