Classroom Lessons
I go into K-2 classrooms at least every other month to teach about social-emotional learning (SEL). Topics may include emotions, problem-solving, friendship, social skills, diversity, and more.
School-Wide Behavior Intervention
Our positive behavior program at MaST is Panther P.R.I.D.E. Each month we have an assembly where we learn about a new P.R.I.D.E. value (Preparedness, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Excellence) and teachers recognize one student from each class who demonstrates that value. Students are rewarded for positive behaviors throughout the school year with Panther P.R.I.D.E. points, which they can trade for prizes.
Section 504
I am the Case Manager for all K-2 students with non-medical 504 Plans.
What is a 504 Plan? From the PA Department of Education:
"A student that does not qualify for special education services under IDEA (an educational law) still may qualify for services under Section 504 (a civil rights law) if the disability is shown to substantially limit his or her educational performance.
A child with a disability is one who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits major life activities, such as caring for one's self, performing manual tasks, walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning and working. Accommodations often refer to building accessibility, classroom adjustments and curriculum modifications and may be updated or revised as the need changes."
Student Assistance Program (SAP)
I am a member of the K-8 Student Assistance Program (SAP) Team.
The MaST SAP Team is a confidential and voluntary part of a state-wide student assistance program which operates in all of Pennsylvania's school district. SAP provides schools with the means to identify barriers to a student's learning and success in the areas of behavior, academics, and/or attendance.
