Word Families - Students should practice reading and spelling the word family words that we are doing in class.
Sight word mastery is an essential part of learning how to read. These words typically do not follow the rules. Therefore, students need to learn them by sight or memorization. They can not be sounded out. Please make flash cards for each sight word we cover and help your child study them each night in order to ensure mastery and help your child become a reader!
*Tracking print – each week “sight word” stories/ minibooks/poems will come home to be read/practiced. We go over all readings in school but some might be more difficult than others. If your child is having difficulty reading it to you, then you can read it to your child and have him or her track the print. (Point to each word as you read it.) The ability to track print is a very important pre-reading skill.
