What does music look like at MaST III? Here are a couple highlights:
Developing healthy vocal technique: Each student has their own unique. We do a LOT of singing to help students discover, develop, and refine their voices. My goal is that each and every student is able to sing well into their 90s!
Reading and writing using standard music notation: Music is a language with its own grammar and mechanics. Students will learn how to read, write, notate, perform, and compose using standard music notation.
Playing a variety of instruments to actively create music: From drums to xylophones, we use instruments to discover and play with sounds. From interactive stories with sound effects to composing original pieces, instruments are an important tool in developing musicianship.
Experiencing music from different time periods, cultures, and genres: Each people group throughout all time have developed and used their own music to foster community. We listen to music from all around the world and all through time to better understand each other and to build respectful and diverse community.
Utilizing technology to support and strengthen the music making process: The field of music technology is booming! A career in music now is not limited to performing and teaching, rather there are many opportunities to utilize musical skills in technology based careers. By using music technology such as GarageBand and Finale, we are building technology skills that set the foundation for further development.
