MEDIA CENTER MISSION AND GOALS
GOALS:
Maintain a welcoming space for staff and students to inspire personal and academic growth.
Assist students in developing skills and attitudes which will allow them to become independent, lifelong learners.
Partner with teaching staff through collaborative lesson planning to include relevant literacy standards across the curriculum.
Provide access to materials and resources that support a wide range of learning needs, abilities, perspectives, and interests.
OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENTS:
To make the library media program an integral part of the curriculum
To provide a safe and meaningful space to think, express, and explore.
To provide relevant instruction in information literacy, media literacy, digital literacy, and lifelong learning.
To provide access to materials for reference, research, and reading for pleasure.
To develop good habits when accessing the library and its resources.
To maintain an open and flexible schedule for more effective and efficient use of materials and resources.
OBJECTIVES FOR TEACHERS:
To assist in the access, selection, and utilization of informational materials and resources.
To participate in programs for the professional growth of our community.
To provide materials and resources which will support curricular integration.
To collaboratively merge literacy and informational access skills into the curriculum.
MEDIA CENTER PROGRAM SCHEDULE AND SERVICES
SCHEDULE AND SERVICES:
The Media Center is open to staff and students throughout the school day by appointment and approved eHallpasses.
Regular classroom visits for lessons and silent reading are highly encouraged and supported using AASL alignment to content area standards.
Reading and literacy incentive programs take place throughout the year to inspire a love and appreciation for reading and knowledge.
Our community partnership with Massillon Public Library allows us to access current materials and resources throughout the state via Search Ohio and OhioLINK. Deliveries are sent to the high school Media Center every Friday. As well, borrowers can return their items to the Media Center to be sent back.
