Join us for Majors Day 2/11/2026!
Where should I start?
This website is a great place to start! The Major Exploration 101 presentation is under the Major Exploration Week tab. You can also watch some of the major panels and see the students’ perspectives of the departments.
Do you still have questions? Make an appointment to meet with a PAL. The PALs are great resources, and if you STILL have questions, they can point you to other students, faculty, and staff to help you make an informed decision before you officially declare a major.
Can I dual major?
If you’re a first-year student, you will need to meet with an ARC Academic Advisor to get permission to dual major BEFORE submitting the Regsitrar’s Major Declaration Form.
Can I dual major in Illustration and Animation?
No, unfortunately, you cannot dual major in Illustration and Animation because the major requirements are too similar. Students also cannot dual major in two 3D majors (Ceramics, Sculpture, Glass, Jewelry & Metals, or Fibers) or Major/Minor in two 3D mediums.
Who should I contact to discuss the curriculum of the major I’m interested in?
You can contact the Department Chair or Program Area Chair of the department(s) that you’re interested in. Their contact information is listed in the MassArt Faculty Directory.
What kinds of events can I attend to learn more about the majors?
The ARC hosts one Major Exploration event per semester! In the fall, we will host Map to Your Major, which is a major/minor fair in the DMC. Student representatives from all the majors and minors gather to show off their artwork and answer questions about what it’s like to be a student in that department.
New in 2025 will be Major Exploration Week (February 18-21). Major Exploration Week will consist of Studio Open Houses, Panels, and Info Sessions to allow undecided students to explore studio spaces and meet faculty who they may be working with once they declare their major. You can find the schedule of events and recorded presentations from Major Exploration Week under the Major Exploration Week Tab.
