Global Service Jam

What is a service jam?

A service jam is like a hack-a-thon but with people and services in mind. Over 2 days, folks interested in service and customer experience will meet at locations all over the globe. They will be designers, students, academics, business people, folks looking for new work opportunities, customers, mums, kids, and grand-dads.

In a spirit of experimentation, innovation, co-operation and friendly competition, teams will have less than 48 hours to develop and prototype completely new services, products or initiatives inspired by a shared theme.  At the end of the Jam, their collection of brand new insights and prototypes will be published to the world.

Who can participate?

Anyone and everyone is invited to participate! Whether you are a professional designer, educator, student, or anyone simply interested in the design of great services, you are welcome to join us. 

What can you expect?

The event will be very hands-on and collaborative, emphasizing moving fast and making. The theme for the jam will be kept secret until the kickoff on Wednesday evening. You'll have the opportunity to interpret the theme and break it into smaller groups to understand, define, solve, and prototype brand-new services.

What is the Jam schedule?

Wednesday, March 11:  6:00pm - 7:00pm (online)

• Log onto Zoom for the Jam kickoff where you will learn about service design and the secret theme will be revealed

Thursday, March 12:   9:00am - 4:00pm (in person)

• 9:00 - 9:30am:  Welcome & registration

• 9:30 - 10:00am:  Overview or the day, break into teams

• 10:00am - 4:00pm:  Align on a problem to solve, brainstorm and map service solutions, start to prototype

  • Take breaks and lunch as each team chooses

Friday, March 13:   9:30am - 4:00pm (in person)

• 9:30 - 10:00am:  Tips on prototyping

• 10:00am - 2:30pm:  Prototype & refine

  • Take breaks and lunch as each team chooses

• 2:30 - 3:30pm:  Prototype presentations

• 3:30 - 4:00pm:  Closing
