Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to addressing a student's learning needs, specifically in reading. We begin by giving students an universal screener, frequently called benchmark testing. These assessments are given five times thoughout the year. the data is then used to determine if further assessments and interventions are needed. These interventions are designed to meet your child at their current level of need and challenge them to make gains towards academic success.
Tier Groups:
You may have recieved a tier group placement letter for your student. Let's take a closer look at what those mean:
Tier 1: Your child is scoring at or above grade-level, intervention is not needed, but they will receive high-level reading intruction in the classroom.
Tier 2: Your child is scoring just below grade- level and would benefit from intermediate interventions focused in one or more areas of concern.
Tier 3: Your child is scoring below grade-level and needs urgent interventions targeting specific areas of concern.
Your student will be placed in one of these three tier groups. This may fluctuate throughout the school year.
Students identified as Tier 3 will be working in the Reading Room with me in a small group setting. Tier groups are 30 minute sessions each day with progress montioring every Friday. I will be working alongside the classroom teacher to plan interventions that best support your child's needs.
