Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to addressing all students' learning needs. The process is designed to help all students meet their full learning potential through frequent screening and interventions. We begin with universal screening, also referred to as benchmark testing. All students are screened five times per year. We use benchmark assessment data to place students in a tier in which their learning needs will be met through reading interventions. These interventions are designed to meet students at their current level and challenge them to make gains in reading to meet their academic goals.
Tier 1: ALL students receive high-quality reading instruction in a general education setting with their classroom teacher.
Tier 2: Students who are identified as needing additional support in reading receive daily small-group interventions that are designed to help them make gains to reach their specific reading goals. Tier 2 interventions are in addition to the general classroom reading instruction.
Tier 3: Students who are identified as needing more intensive interventions will receive two daily sessions of small group or individual reading interventions designed to help them make gains in reading and to reach their reading goals. Tier 3 interventions are in addition to the general classroom reading instruction.
Students who receive Tier 2 and Tier 3 Reading Interventions will be progress monitored weekly and adjustments will be made to their learning program as their needs change.
