I am excited to be the National Honor Society sponsor. I look forward to advising and overseeing activities of the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society promotes academic excellence and performance by students. If you have questions about this society I can be reached at Pallen@massac.org
National Honor Society is for Juniors and Seniors. Juniors are invited to join around Christmas time. There is an application process and a selection team that will review the application. There are specific criteria to meet. Below is an example of the letter that the student will receive and then there will be an application. NOTICE: Membership is based on four areas: scholarship, leadership, service and character!
A student can have wonderful grades but not have any leadership and not be invited into the National Honor Society. They MUST meet all four categories to be inducted. I DO NOT make these decisions as I am not on the committee, I am only the sponsor! These determinations are made at the national level.
To Potential National Honor Society Member: (this is an example)
The faculty council selection committee for the National Honor Society (NHS) is now reviewing candidates for membership. Your cumulative average of ____________indicates that you are academically eligible for membership consideration.
Membership in the National Honor Society is based upon excellence in four areas: scholarship, leadership, serve and character. Each category is judged independently.
In addition to the academic requirement, participation and leadership in school and other activities is required. Please note the attached papers.
Please complete the form attached to this letter and return it to the NHS advisor, Mrs. Allen (room 51C), by Thursday, January 27.
If you are not interested in membership, please return the blank form by January 27.
Although you are to be commended for maintaining a high scholastic average, please understand that membership is not automatic to anyone. The final decision is made by the faculty committee. If you have any questions regarding NHS or membership, please contact Mrs. Allen.
