Online tools for extra German help
Deutsch-English Wörterbuch - This is a good tool to keep open while working on homework or practicing at home. Keep in mind there are audio links and grammatical tables on here too.
Goethe Institut - An excellent resource for practicing German outside of class. They have free online tools and courses that you can pay to take online. This is a partner of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Google Translate - When using this, be sure to click the speaker to hear what it should sound like in German. Also, always double check your translations with a second, reliable source to check for meaning and context.
Help with typing umlauts - There are a few options. You can either add a special character extension or add the German keyboard and switch between German and US keyboards.
Duolingo - Website and mobile app (you should try to play this every day!) Android or iOS
Coffee Break German Podcast - Excellent short podcasts you can listen to daily to help improve your speaking and listening skills as well as some cultural aspects. Find it wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts or follow the link to their website.
German with Jenny YouTube Channel - We will reference these videos at times throughout the course.
Deutsche Welle - Great online German media outlet with excellent practice lessons for speaking and reading.
Kika (short for Kinderkanal) - This is Germany's public programming channel for children (essentially their version of PBS kids). They even have Sesamstrasse!
