This is a sample of how I track participation during a consensus meeting on notebook paper. The class period is circled in the center, plus the time and maximum participation allowed. I also make note of any big reminders, concepts, misconceptions that I want to talk about after. Around the outside I write the student's names based on where they are sitting in my classroom. Each check is equal to one participation. Students that are crossed out have been 'muted.'

In my classroom I will display sentence starts when we are learning how to have a consensus meeting in my classroom. As the year goes on I don't display all of these anymore but instead focus their attention on one or two in particular as a reminder to reinforce our prior experiences.
