Maysville residents, Roger and Susan Barnett, had a dream for years to have a Miracle League Field in our area to enable children and adults with special needs the opportunity to play baseball on an accessible field. The dream progressed toward reality in August 2023 when a group of passionate and invested individuals joined them in creating the Miracle League of Buffalo Trace 501(c)3 organization.
We are proud to be part of the national Miracle League organization, a movement that has already helped over 350 communities across the America build fields and playgrounds where individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities can experience the joy of sports and play in a safe, welcoming environment. The Miracle League is proud to serve over 450,000 children and adults with disabilities.
A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was formed to build a Miracle League field that serves the greater Buffalo Trace Region. This field is centrally located at the Limestone Family YMCA in Maysville, Kentucky. This location is easily accessible for children and adults from Mason, Bracken, Fleming, Robertson and Lewis counties, as well as Brown and Adams counties in Ohio.
Our project includes two major components:
A Miracle League Field – This isn’t your typical ball field. It features a custom-designed special patented surface to prevent injuries and accommodate wheelchairs and mobility devices. The field will be flat, accessible, and completely inclusive and is designed for both baseball and soccer,. The field will be used for community gatherings for special occasions and special groups and for educational programs that promote inclusivity and awareness. We look forward to partnerning with both senior and veteran groups!
Some of the specifics regarding the field are:
10,568 square feet of playing field
15,000 square feet of field, including dugouts and foul areas
Shaded and enlarged dugouts for buddies and players
Specially patented playing surface
Shaded outdoor pavilion area
Handicap accessible restrooms
Field lights
Press box
Video Score Board
An inclusive playground - This will be built alongside the field and will be designed with accessible surfacing. The playground will include sensory-friendly elements and adaptive play equipment. We look forward to providing a space where individuals of all abilities can play together, not apart.
The Miracle League of Buffalo Trace has an aggressive plan to create a safe and inclusive space for all people with disabilities within the Buffalo Trace region. We plan to raise 2 million dollars for a complete inclusive complex and contingency fund for future maintenance.
The Board of Directors at The Miracle League of Buffalo Trace is a team of dedicated volunteers committed to advancing our mission of inclusion through physical activity. Their leadership and support help guide the league’s growth, ensure a welcoming environment for all players and families, and sustain the programs that make a lasting impact. Through their passion and service, they help create a community where every child and adult, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to experience the joy of being part of a team.
