My name is Chad Smith, and this is my 21st year of teaching. I spent 10 years teaching 5th grade in the West Shore School District before coming to Mechanicsburg Area School District 11 years ago to teach 6th grade math. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University and my Master's Degree in School Administration from Shippensburg University. I am certified to teach math up through 9th grade and also hold a Principal's Certificate. In addition to teaching 6th grade, I am also the Team Leader for the Adventurers Team.
I currently live in Mechanicsburg with my wonderful wife, Alicia, my son, Cooper, and my daughter, Ainsley. Having two kids keeps me very busy, and spending time with family and friends is my favorite thing to do. Additionally, I always try to find time to workout and run outside, fish, camp, hunt, etc. The outdoors have always been a huge passion of mine.
I'm a firm believer that everyone has the ability to learn anything (even math!) if they work hard, learn from mistakes, seek help, ask questions, and never give up. This core belief is what led me to teaching math, as I know for some, the word math causes instant anxiety. In reality, math is meant to be explored and enjoyed! Can it be challenging? YES! Can it be frustrating at times? ABSOLUTELY! But math also opens so many doors and lends itself to so much exploration and fun! I'm looking forward to exploring and having fun with this year's sixth grade class!
