Peers 4 Peers is a club at MHS consisting of 10th - 12th graders. We are trained to provide intentional social support to our friends and classmates and to be positive role models in our school community.Â
What do Peers do?
We use the skills and information from our ongoing trainings to listen and support other students who are facing challenges with:
Mental health
Substance use
Academics
Friendships
Family/home life
Sports and other clubs
Jobs
We are a safe presence for students who need to talk to someone who will understand.
We encourage healthy choices and prioritize wellness among the student body.
We work to change our school into a more inclusive community for everyone.
Why is Peers 4 Peers Important?
Peer-Based programs have been used to facilitate positive change in those served, including:
Increased academic achievement
Improved social skills
Better school attendance
Improved decision-making
Increased emotional well-being
Reduced substance use
Increased sense of belonging, acceptance, and/or connectedness
Increased access to available resources
Peer helpers themselves have displayed several positive outcomes because of their participation in Peer-Based programs, including:
Increased academic engagement
Improved communication skills
Increased connectedness and sense of belonging
Improved self-esteem and self-efficacy
Increased empathy and cultural competency
Increased leadership and responsibility
Decreased risky behaviors
Increased resilience
Improved decision-making and conflict resolution
