MyOn

MyON will be a part of our school’s digital strategy, allowing access to a ‘24/7 student -centred personalised literacy platform which will match students with the right book and at the right reading level based on their interests.’ This will enable our students to access a digital library of 7000 books and age-appropriate news articles all year round. Furthermore, the platform will also allow staff to remotely set reading and writing projects to develop your child’s learning.

For years 7-8, Mascalls has firmly embedded the Accelerated Reader programme over the last few years, and so this platform is a great extension of that programme, enabling students to continue developing their ZPD ranges (the child’s ZPD defines the readability range from which they should be selecting books in order to achieve optimal growth in reading skill) through quizzes of the online books.

MyON also allows your child to have pages, sentences or words read to them. Moreover, they can also look up words they do not understand and highlight and annotate passages, giving them ownership and independence of their learning experience.

Years 9-10 can experience reading around topics of study, using this platform to extend understanding of key texts, or to simply just enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure, something that at Mascalls we are striving to keep alive throughout all years. It will allow students to access texts whenever they need, again, allowing a greater sense of independence and curiosity.

All year 7-10 students have had their accounts set up so they can now login into myON. Students will find the information to do this in their English Google Classroom stream.
