Welcome to the Leigh Academy Mascalls Parent Update, your first stop for all academy news and events.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you and your families are well and that you've had a productive week. As the term progresses, I've been so impressed by the hard work and positive attitude of our students. It really has been a great start to the start of the year. Student Photographs were taken today and your child was given a flyer from Vancols with a QR code on for you to access their photograph in approximately 4 - 5 days time. If they have not returned with their card, their photograph will be accessible via the Vancols website via a code that will be sent to you.
It's important to me that we share in our students' successes, both big and small. We're incredibly proud of the efforts of our students, and our reward systems are designed to recognise and celebrate this. I'd like to extend my congratulations to all the students who have received MasStars this week, recognising outstanding achievement and effort in their subjects. Furthermore, a huge well done to those who were celebrated in our recent College Awards for their contributions to academy life and their positive character. These moments are a testament to their dedication and our fantastic staff, see below for those who have been celebrated this week!
Yesterday we held a 'Golden ticket' boost day where all students who obtained a Golden ticket during the day were rewarded with an additional treat at the lunch queue or the shack, students were bringing examples of their written work in their lessons to see if they could be rewarded too which was really great to see!
We have now held all of our information evenings for parents over the past 2 weeks. Thank you to all parents and family members who attended, we would love to gather some feedback from all parents whether you came or not to see how we could improve the information evenings and to find out the reasons that may have prevented you from attending and if we can do anything to ensure you can in the future. Please complete this google form to support us in this. All of the slideshows have been shared with you this week and contact details are enclosed if you have any questions.
I would also like to provide an update on our Sparx learning platforms. We had some initial technical issues with student logins due to our new email address format, which temporarily delayed access to their accounts. I'm pleased to confirm that this has now been fully resolved. Sparx Reader, Sparx Maths, and Sparx Science are all now back up and running as of this week. Please do encourage your child to use these resources to complete their homework and to also develop their reading and comprehension skills via Sparx Reader.
Please see below for the clubs that are running for this module, all sports clubs have started for this module and fixtures will take place from next week.
We want to inform you of a staffing change within our college system. We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms Kemp, Head of Earhart College, who has left the academy. We are incredibly grateful for her many years of service and dedication in supporting our students and staff. We wish her all the very best for the future. We are pleased to announce that Miss Honey has been appointed as the new Head of College for Earhart.
We believe that a strong partnership between the academy and our families is vital for student success. Here are a few ways you can stay connected and get involved:
Follow us on social media: We often post updates on social media channels.
Check our website for letters, curriculum information for each subject area, Post 16 options, GCSE options information and to access previously sent letters etc.
Attend our SEN and Principal's Coffee Mornings, details to be sent in the next update.
As always, thank you for your continued support. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child’s College team if you have any questions or concerns.
Best wishes,
Jo Brooks - Principal
Post 16 Update
Following our recent Information Evenings, all parents of Year 12 and 13 students have been sent copies of the presentation. We strongly encourage you to look through this presentation carefully as it contains key dates and valuable advice for supporting your child through their A-Level studies. This information is vital for helping them navigate the challenges and succeed in their final years with us.
We are continuing to promote the use of Uplearn, a fantastic online platform designed to support our Post-16 students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, and Psychology A-Levels. Uplearn is a vital resource to help students build confidence with complex material and achieve excellent outcomes at all assessment points. We expect all students in these subjects to be completing at least one unit per week and aiming to raise their levels of mastery. This complements their learning in class and helps to solidify their understanding.
