This reflection helps you assess your learning progress at the midpoint of our course and identify areas for growth in the remaining weeks. It also helps you prepare evidence for your midterm portfolio conference, where you'll advocate for your grade based on your demonstrated learning and growth. If there's a significant difference between your self-proposed grade and the evidence in your work, we'll discuss and examine specific examples from your work to understand the discrepancy and reach a consensus on a grade that accurately reflects your demonstrated engagement and learning.
Instructions: Use your notebook/portfolio to find specific evidence supporting your responses. Write 1-2 short paragraphs per category with concrete examples from your work. Aim for 1-2 pages total.
Reflect on your engagement with course materials and study habits outside of class. Consider your reading practices, time management, assignment completion, and use of support resources. What evidence from your notebook/portfolio demonstrates your preparation and investment? Write a brief response with specific examples.
Reflect on how your participation during class time has contributed to both your own learning and our class community's learning. Consider your active verbal participation, non-verbal engagement, written contributions, "quiet" participation, collaborative work, resource sharing, encouragement, and connection-building during discussions. How has engaging with others enhanced your understanding of course concepts? What specific examples show how your participation has supported both your learning and the learning of your classmates?
How do your Progress Updates reflect your engagement level throughout the semester so far, and what patterns do you notice? Reference specific Progress Updates and explain how your Progress Updates demonstrate the consistent 2s and 3s needed for B-level work, or how patterns of 1s or 3s might support a different grade level.
One highlight: Describe one moment, accomplishment, or achievement you're proud of so far
One strength: Identify one area where you feel you're performing well
One growth area: Recognize one area where you'd like to improve
One challenge: Briefly describe one significant challenge you've faced and how you addressed it
One goal: Set one specific goal for the remainder of the semester
Based on your reflections above and the evidence you've documented throughout this assignment, what grade do you believe accurately represents your overall learning, effort, and growth in this course at the midpoint of the semester?
Before selecting your grade, briefly address your attendance and engagement so far. Review your attendance record to this point and explain how it aligns with your self-assessed grade. Then, reflect on your engagement in the completed unit(s) and how you met deadlines within the unit timeframe.
Select your self-assessed grade:
A - Exceptional engagement and learning
B - Solid engagement meeting course expectations
C - Adequate engagement with some gaps
D - Minimal engagement falling short of expectations
Write a brief justification for your self-assessed grade. Draw specifically from the evidence and examples you provided in sections 1-4 above. Your response should demonstrate how your course preparation, participation, process engagement, and growth patterns align with the criteria for your chosen grade level.
