In July of 2019,  a journey to provide STEM in education to teachers and institutions in Uganda had begun under Dr. Usha Rajdev, professor emeritus at Marymount University School of Education. Over the course of three weeks one university and four local high schools implemented a STEM program using Project Based Learning (PBL) with a focus in engineering and design. By using real-world scenarios, challenges, and problems, Smithsonian Science Education Center's Mosquito! Module was introduced.

All five institutions' teachers were engaged in training and learning of available resources, and how to collaborate with each other before implementing the module in their schools. The overarching goal is to sustain this project with Uganda leading and mentoring other schools across Africa and modeling the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Ms. Rachel Cotton and Dr. Usha Rajdev meet with the teachers online to collaborate and guide them in next steps.
