In the book Douglas Adams uses Language as a very powerful way to express the events that happen in the book, going through space they come across lot's of different language sources and Ford Prefect can understand what their sayings because he is from another planet and some of this language effects him but Arthur has no idea whats going on. Some of the Language used in this book is a bit confusing at first until you really know what is going on sand then it isn't to hard to understand.
Vogon poetry is known to be the 3rd worst poetry in the universe and Douglas Adams uses it as a very powerful language and in one part of the book when Ford and Arthur get captured by the Vogons Douglas Adams uses it as a way of Torturing Ford and Arthur because of how bad it really is. But as I said in the Intro Arthur is not fazed by the poetry while Ford is absolutely going crazy. Ford & Arthur attempted to compliment the Vogons poetry but they were thrown out to space anyway.
in the start of the book when the demolition company come to Arthur Dents house to knock it down Ford prefect walks through all of the bulldozers to see Arthur lying flat on his back in front of the bulldozer and try's to persuade the demolition company that there was no point in both of the staying there and doing nothing and says to Arthur let's just go to the pub fora drink before the world ends, Arthur was confused about how the world was ending but went along with him anyway.
Sometimes language can be used as a powerful source of torture as shown in the paragraph about Vogon poetry but in anyways it is a very strong way of expressing yourself and in the book the author uses a whole load of strange language that is hard to understand and Douglas Adams has done this on purpose. I feel like he has intentionally tried to make his book a bit strange to engage us and make us want to know what is going to happen just by the language he has used.
