MHS Bobcat Bands

Purpose

Marshalltown Senior High Bands have much to offer through rigorous learning experiences and multiple performance opportunities. Co-curriculuar ensembles include Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Jazz One, Jazz Two, and Marching Band. Extra-curricular ensembles include Pep Band, Pit Orchestra (Musical), and Show Band (Show Choir). We also offer numerous auditioned and nominated Honor Band opportunities for students to extend their learning.

Our two concert band ensembles (Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band) are the core of our program. Students are challenged to strengthen their fundamental skills through the concert band setting. In addition, musicianship skills, personal attributes, and creativity are developed throughout this process.

Both Jazz Bands offer extensive musical experiences that explore the history, style, and language of Jazz. Improvisation is developed through an open and welcoming learning environment.

The Bobcat Marching Band is a vibrant and exciting ensemble that reaches many people in the community. This ensemble plays an important role at home varsity football games, Oktemberfest Parade, and Homcoming Festivities. Students gain a deep understanding of teamwork and unity as they work toward a common goal.

Pep Band, Pit Orchestra, and Show Band are volunteer ensembles that offer students a different mode of learning and growing as musicians. The Pep Band is an intrigal part of the school culture at pep assemblies and home basketball games. The Pit Orchestra and Show Band provide necessary musical accompaniment and excitement to the annual Musical and competitive Show Choir.

Thank you to all MHS Band Alumni, Parents, Administration, and Community Members for your involvement and support of MHS Bands.
