General Note: If you want to search for any specific resource that you want to know more about, please do so using the search bar function of this website. You can type what you're looking for and it will show you everywhere that term appears on this website! From there, you can click on it and it will take you directly to the resource you are looking for.
Home Page: On this page, you will find an overview of each page within this website (what you're reading right now)! Additionally, the Home Page includes my purpose for creating this website, and an introduction to who I am and why I am passionate about this.
General (MN/Duluth) On this page, you will find links to and explanations of helpful websites and local organizations (Disability Hub, mn.gov, The Arc, support groups/networks, etc.). These can be a helpful starting point as they all hold plentiful information! There are general MN resources as well as Duluth area-specific, more local resources.
Resources by Timeline: On this page, you will find information on the majority of support resources, arranged chronologically according to when they will be useful in one's life. For example, resources for babies with special needs will appear first, and resources for older adults with special needs will be at the end of the page.
Advocacy Page: If you are a parent, sibling, or friend of someone with a disability -- or if you have a disability yourself -- and are wondering how to best effectively advocate for them (or yourself!), the advocacy page is right for you! On this page, you will find helpful tips/resources on how to advocate for those with disabilities, including self-advocacy.
Inclusion Page: On this page, you will find tips on how to promote inclusion in your community; whether it be a school, job, or other community setting.
Hello! My name is Sophie Haug, and I am the sister of Sam Haug; a wonderful 16-year old with Down syndrome (both of us pictured to the right). My passion for advocating for him and others with disabilities inspired this website to be the product of my senior project. I wanted to do my best to directly benefit and support local families of those with disabilities through this project. On this website, you will find various support resources that may be beneficial throughout your journey as a parent or family member of someone with special needs. These have been collected and selected through conversations with families surrounding helpful support resources for them, as well as from staff members at The Arc Northland, Access North, and the county. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or suggestions (my email can be found on the footer of each page). Thank you so much for using this website, and I hope it benefits you!
