Concert Attendance Policy
Concerts are important events and our ensembles are at their best when every member is present. School-related conflicts (sports, etc), are avoided as much as possible when the calendar for the year is created. When a conflict does happen it is resolved between the coach/director and Mrs. Ransom, but it is the student/family responsibility to identify the conflict and communicate it to Mrs. Ransom at the beginning of the season. Family/non-school related conflicts need to be communicated at least ONE MONTH prior to the concert. This gives sufficient time to resolve the conflict. Conflicts that are not communicated to me in a timely manner that result in a student missing a concert are considered unexcused, and will result in a grade of 0 for the concert. In the case of illness, a student is excused only if they also miss school the day of or day after a concert. Adult communication is key, and the earliest possible communication is appreciated when conflicts do arise.
High School Performance Uniforms
Concert black is the uniform for all students in both high school orchestras. This means students should be dressed in solid black from the shoulders down. Any student wearing a dress or skirt must also have on black tights/nylons/leggings. Solid black shoes/socks should be worn as well. Sleeveless shirts, jeans, and t-shirts are not permitted. Any student that needs or prefers to may use school uniform pieces, and these will be returned at the end of the year to be dry-cleaned (paid for by the student/family).
Middle School Performance Uniforms
Middle school students wear the MMS Music Dept. polo shirts and black pants. These shirts are the same across all three music classes and are ordered at the beginning of the school year. The order form will be available at registration as well as emailed home the first week of school, and the shirts are $15. The black pants can be any material as long as they are they are solid black, and students should wear black socks and shoes as well.
