Guitarist David Marsden moved to Austin after completing his Master's degree at age 20 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Sergio Assad. He specializes in classical and jazz guitar. Past collaborations include performances with a wide variety of musicians such as Pepe Romero, the Fresno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Austin Jazz Band and the Indian-jazz fusion group Sangeet Millenium. He has also composed music that combines aspects of classical and jazz music. His major teachers include Paul Murphy, Stuart Green and Patricia Robinson.Â
When he was the director of the guitar program at Lamar Middle School and Fine Arts Academy David wrote curriculum for the Austin Independent School District, doubled the enrollment in guitar at Lamar to over 100 students and conducted the middle school region guitar ensemble. In competition his students have won several best-in-class awards and sweepstakes trophies at UIL.
In 2025, David gave a dozen public performances in Austin, all on electric guitar and mostly jazz, so quite different from the older videos currently on this website. To hear more details about upcoming performances, send him an email to request to join his email list.
