About

Paschal Amaechi is a PhD student in the Applied Marine Exploration Lab.

He obtained his B.Sc. in Geology from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and His M.Sc. in Petroleum Geoscience from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nigeria. Paschal’s masters researched focused on integrated reservoir characterization of wells in the Niger Delta, Nigeria. He joined the research group in 2020 for his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Itzik Makovsky, Dr. Nicolas Waldmann and Dr. Mimonitu Opuwari.

His Research interests include subaerial and submarine landslides, Marine geohazards, deepwater sedimentary basins and their hydrocarbon potentials and environmental geoscience.

Current research

The mechanism and Recurrence of Mass transport and faulting in the Southwestern Orange Basin

Paschal’s research is focused on understanding the influence of pre-existing basin structures on the architecture and flow behavior of mass transport deposits. The project involves the use of high resolution 3D and 2D seismic datasets as well as data to map and analyse seafloor geomorphology and stratigraphy and identify important kinematic indicators. Paschal plans to adopt modern seismic interpretation and modern attribute analysis tools in his research.
