Students need to choose a non-fiction text and a documentary that work together to explore a single theme or idea. These can be on any topic of the student's interest: Food, Economics, Crime, etc. The topic/theme that you choose may become the basis of your Junior Research Paper, so choose wisely!
Please complete the form at the bottom of this page to verify what you will be watching and reading and what theme you believe connects the two.
When selecting a text, you should consider memoirs, biographies, autobiographies, expository texts, works about art or literature, journalism, historical, scientific, or technical writings.
Your text needs to fulfill one additional criteria: it needs to thematically connect to the Documentary that you also watch.
The documentary should be a video or film produced for the purpose of exploring or explaining some idea that connects to the non-fiction text that you chose.
The documentary you choose can come from Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, PBS, or even a VHS Tape from the Public Library.
This pairing is an example of how two things that seem like they might not quite be the same actually could be used to connect through the idea of identifying the important things in our lives.
