Statement from former First Lady Wella Palacios and family:
The family of the late Governor Arnold I. Palacios, including First Lady Wella Palacios, their children, grandchildren, and extended family, today released a statement expressing profound gratitude and deep appreciation to friends, colleagues, and community members – from the across the CNMI and beyond – who have offered their prayers and who have continued to share the meaningful impact that the Governor has made throughout his long career as a public servant.
The past few days have been difficult for the family, but the outpouring of love and support has helped lift them during this time of sorrow, grief and reflection. The family was deeply moved by the residents who lined the roadways to offer their condolences and quiet farewells as the Governor’s remains made their way to the funeral home on Saturday.
The late Governor’s family is especially grateful to Governor David Apatang and Lieutenant Governor Dennis Mendiola for their help and leadership during this time of transition. The family also recognized and thanked Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Guam Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio, as well as leaders and representatives from the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and Joint Region Marianas, the medical teams at Guam Regional Medical City and the Commonwealth Health Center Corporation, and others who have provided comfort and support.
In his decades of service to the Commonwealth, Governor Palacios championed many initiatives, policies, and accomplishments; beyond these, however, his most important legacy will always lie in the way he connected with people throughout the Marianas and in the many ways he genuinely sought to make a difference in their lives.
More information about funeral services is forthcoming.
