05/21/2025 - The endangered Mariana Crow, or Aga in Chamorro, is making significant progress under the Rota Avian Behavioral Ecology Program.
The primary investigator for the program Sarah Faegre said that there are 70 breeding pairs in the wild, or approximately 300 individuals. 90 captive-reared Aga have been released to the wild since 2017. They are now seeing high rates of reproduction among those birds.
The Mariana Crow is on the path to being downlisted and delisted as an endangered species.
Marianas Press' Thomas Manglona II recently visited the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance rear and release facility on Rota to learn about their journey.
