PRESS RELEASE: The Public School System announces the postponement of austerity measures originally scheduled to take effect on November 1, 2025, as previously announced in a memorandum issued on October 24. These measures, including the suspension of Monday classes and a 64-hour biweekly work schedule for employees, will now be implemented on November 17, 2025.
In a memorandum issued Oct. 29, Commissioner of Education Dr. Lawrence F. Camacho explained that this decision provides additional time for continued collaboration with both the legislative and executive branches of government. The goal is to explore available options for a revised FY 2026 budget that best aligns with the operational needs of public schools, while safeguarding the workforce and programs wherever possible.
Previously issued austerity measures are now on hold. As a result:
* All schools and offices will continue normal operations on their regular schedules.
* Employees are expected to report to work as usual.
* There will be no changes to the school calendar.
* Payroll processing will remain unchanged at this time.
“Should an agreement or revised budget be finalized before November 17, 2025, a separate communication will be issued accordingly,” the education chief said.
Dr. Camacho also expressed his sincere appreciation for the continued patience, understanding, and dedication of all stakeholders as the Public School System navigates this challenging fiscal period. Additional updates will be provided as soon as they become available.
