05/19/2025 - After an 18-month vacancy, the Northern Mariana Islands will finally have a Veterans Affairs administrative specialist starting June 16, 2025, according to CNMI Delegate Kimberlyn King-Hinds.
King-Hinds has been advocating for the sole VA administrative role in the CNMI to be filled, emphasizing its importance for local veterans who often lack access to essential services.
“The administrative specialist position is a critical resource for our community of underserved veterans. [They] are the only person in the CNMI, actually, that is responsible for assisting our vets by answering questions, providing information, and giving guidance,” King-Hinds said during a recent U.S. House committee hearing with U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins.
In response, Secretary Collins acknowledged the unique challenges of the region and confirmed that the position would be filled in June. “You are in an area that is remote, it is very difficult,” he said.
Following the announcement, King-Hinds expressed her gratitude in a social media post, “Thank you to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins for delivering for the veterans of the Marianas.”
