11/24/2025 - Businessman Juan Pan Guerrero has opened a casket business inside his Island A-Heart retail store on Rota, launching the new venture last Nov. 14.
The Rota Chamber of Commerce vice president said he expanded into supplying caskets to the southernmost island of the Northern Marianas due to steady public demand.
“Several requests from the aging community [asked] if I can bring and sell caskets and include payment plans at affordable pricing,” he told Marianas Press.
Island A-Heart currently sells the Sunburst line of caskets, available in several colors—including white, silver, and teak wood.
“Our pricing for these steel caskets is competitive with those in Guam and Saipan,” Guerrero said.
He added that the casket business materialized largely with the help of Fr. Jesse Reyes, who oversees both San Isidro Church and San Francisco de Borja Church on Rota.
As for sourcing, Guerrero said, “After checking with available vendors, it was decided that Ada’s Mortuary of Guam would be the best supplier and provider. It also further helps that I know them personally.”
A simple opening ceremony was held on Nov. 14, drawing over 40 attendees, including Rota Mayor Aubrey Hocog and her staff, Fr. Reyes, Rota Chamber of Commerce president Charlene Ogo and her team, staff of Northern Marianas College–Rota, parishioners, and Guerrero’s friends.
“It was a great opening considering our slow economy on Rota. A cross-section of people came to see what we offered,” Guerrero said.
Ogo congratulated Guerrero and Island A-Heart on the expansion.
“We’re proud to see our vice president expand his investment on Rota with the opening of his casket business. As someone who operates multiple businesses on the island, he continues to fill essential needs within our community,” she said.
In a social media post, the Rota Mayor’s Office also extended its congratulations.
“This is a needed service for our island, giving families easier access to this important supply without having to wait on off-island shipments or last-minute arrangements. Juan Pan’s decision to open this business highlights his work to help the community. This new shop will make a meaningful difference for families during difficult times, offering convenience, care, and support close to home,” the post read.
Island A-Heart is located in Songsong Village on Rota. For more information about the casket business, call (670) 488-1728.
