02/14/25 - The Marianas Visitors Authority board offered the managing director role to Jamika Taijeron during their meeting on Tinian on Friday morning.
Marianas Press learned that four people applied but three did not meet the minimum requirements. MP also learned that Taijeron resigned from her position on the MVA board before applying to lead the organization on February 3, 2025.
The search for a new managing director began after Christopher A. Concepcion announced his last day would be Feb. 28, 2025.
Taijeron worked for DFS Saipan Limited for the past 15 years and was the Assistant General Manager for Operations for nearly three years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Columbia Southern University last year.
Taijeron told Marianas Press, “I am truly honored to lead the Marianas Visitors Authority at this critical time for the CNMI. Tourism is the backbone of our economy and a reflection of our culture, people, and natural beauty. While we face challenges, we also have incredible opportunities to rebuild, innovate, and strengthen our industry for long-term success.”
She added, “Tourism is everyone's business and I am committed to working closely with the MVA Board and our stakeholders—government leaders, businesses, industry partners, and the community—to develop a resilient, sustainable tourism strategy that benefits everyone. Collaboration will be key as we enhance our visitor experience, support local entrepreneurs, and ensure that tourism growth aligns with the needs and aspirations of our people.”
Taijeron also expressed gratitude to Gov. Arnold Palacios, Lt. Gov. David Apatang, MVA board Chairwoman Gloria Cavanagh, and the MVA Board for their trust and support.
“I also want to recognize the leadership of departing Managing Director Chris Concepcion and build upon the strong foundation he has laid,” she said.
Taijeron added, “This is an exciting time for the CNMI, and I am ready to listen, learn, and lead with purpose. Together, we can shape a tourism industry that not only drives economic recovery but also preserves the unique charm and heritage of our islands.”
