01/13/25 - CNMI Governor Arnold Palacios approved and issued a qualifying certificate for J&P Holdings as they prepare to launch a new inter-island air service, Micronesian Air Connection Services.
According to the notice of issuance from the Commonwealth Economic Development Authority, the new airline “will invest approximately $8.271,600 million in aviation activities including inter-island air passenger service.” CEDA recommended a 100% tax abatement for 22 years.
The company has 60 days after January 7, when the governor signed it, to accept or reject the qualifying certificate.
J&P Holdings co-owner John Stewart issued this statement Monday afternoon:
"The recent issuance of the Qualifying Certificate for Micronesian Air Connection Services marks an important milestone for air transportation in the CNMI. As 30-year residents of these islands, our family and team understand the vital importance of reliable air service to our community's prosperity.
Micronesian Air Connection Services (MACS), operating under Szabo Aerospace, plans to commence its initial scheduled service within the next 30-60 days, adding new transportation options for our island residents. Increased competition and choice in air transportation will create positive opportunities throughout our community.
We look forward to working alongside other tourism stakeholders, as well as the CNMI government, as the CNMI rebuilds its tourism sector. Additional flight options will support our hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and local businesses as we work to reestablish our islands' pre-COVID position in the Pacific tourism market.
While we prepare for our scheduled service launch, our charter services are available to serve immediate travel needs. Community members can email Info@FlyMACS.com to arrange charter flights or to join our notification list for updates on our upcoming scheduled services."
