DPW chief due back in court on Jan. 7

11/19/2025 - Department of Public Works Secretary Ray Yumul has been ordered to return to Superior Court on Jan. 7, 2026, for the continuation of his driving under the influence and misuse of a government vehicle case.

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo presided over the Nov. 17 status conference. Attorney Joey Patrick San Nicolas appeared on behalf of Yumul, while assistant attorney general David Karch represented the government.

During the hearing, San Nicolas informed the court that the defense has additional discovery to present and requested another status conference. He also noted that they continue to talk with the Office of the Attorney General about the charges against his client.

Yumul was arrested last July 24 after allegedly driving under the influence and misusing a government vehicle. He was pulled over near Twins Market in Lower Navy Hill.
