06/23/2025 - In a press conference at the Pentagon, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine said that the strikes on 3 Iranian nuclear facilities involved sending B2 bombers to the Pacific as a decoy and “deception effort.” Gen. Caine provided details of operation “Midnight Hammer” alongside Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
“As part of a plan to maintain tactical surprise, part of the package proceeded to the West and into the Pacific as a decoy. A deception effort known only to an extremely small number of planners and key leaders…,” Gen. Caine said.
Earlier this weekend, international media reported on multiple B-2 bombers being moved to Guam from Missouri, where Whiteman Air Force base is located, as President Donald Trump weighed whether or not to launch strikes against Iran.
Over the weekend, Guam Governor Leon Guerrero issued a statement that said in part, "I want everyone to know that my team and I have been in close touch with our local military leaders, Rear Admiral Brett Mietus and Rear Admiral Joshua Lasky. Right now, there are no credible threats to our island, and we will do everything in our power to keep Guam safe. I encourage everyone to stay calm and informed by official sources, to look out for one another, and to hold in our thoughts the troops, their loved ones, and all innocent people caught in this conflict. Above all, let's continue to hope for diplomacy and peace - to believe that dialogue will prevail over destruction.”
In an earlier statement to the media, Northern Mariana Islands Governor Arnold Palacios said on Sunday night, ”The Northern Marianas remains alert and we remain positively hopeful & confident that eace & diplomacy reign for the benefit of our fellow brethren here at home and around the world. I’m monitoring the situation in our region with our US military partners, praying for the safety of our service members always."
