02/10/25 - CNMI Del. Kimberlyn King-Hinds is calling on the CNMI community to inform her office of any issues related to federal funding for local programs.
“If you are an agency or if you are a grant recipient who are experiencing difficulties with regards to this funding continuously supporting the programs and services that are being given to the people, please bring that up to our attention,” King-Hinds said in a video posted to social media Monday morning.
She said the office can assist in reaching out directly to grantors to “see what the hold up is.”
Her ask comes after she wrote to President Donald Trump last week urging him to segment the review of federal assistance programs in the U.S. territories after a scholarship program at the Northern Marianas College was temporarily paused.
The delegate said many people have contacted her concerned about Trump’s executive orders and what they mean for the CNMI. “At this point, nobody knows,” she added.
King-Hinds’ focus now turns to following up on the letter she sent to Trump. She acknowledged that there are mounting legal battles because of the executive actions and the issues now have to make their way through the judicial branch.
She emphasized that her priority is to protect the interests of the CNMI people rather than make personal pronouncements about national politics.
