08/04/2025 - Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director Esther Ada informed all CPA employees that full-time work hours will be restored.
“On July 17, 2025, the late Governor Arnold I. Palacios signed House Bill No. 24-17, SD1, CCS1 into law as Public Law 24-04. This law amends 2 CMC § 2174, granting the Commonwealth Ports Authority (CPA) greater financial autonomy, including the authority to transfer seaport funds to support airport operations. These fund transfers must comply with all applicable federal grant assurances, bond indentures, and legal obligations,” Ada said in an August 01, 2025, directive to all CPA employees.
"Austerity Mondays" are officially lifted. Ada said regular full-time work hours for all CPA employees will resume on August 10, 2025.
She added, “CPA thanks the 24th Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth Legislature, the CPA Board of Directors, and the late Governor Palacios for their roles in this important legislation. CPA also sincerely thanks its employees for their patience, professionalism, and continued dedication during the months of financial challenges.”
