03/25/25 - Family and friends of Webster Taracatac are uniting to raise funds for his recovery after a traumatic injury at a basketball game last Friday.
Marianas Press learned that Taracatac was medically evacuated to Guam shortly after a scuffle at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai on Saipan. A gofundme page organized by Treesha Rena is seeking to raise at least $5,000 to help pay for medical bills and other expenses while he is recovering. According to the fundraising page, Taracatac suffered a spine fracture.
“...He is now facing a lengthy recovery that will require not only medical care, but also physical therapy and possibly surgeries,” Rena wrote online.
According to the CNMI Department of Public Safety, Taracatac, 38, “sustained serious injuries during a basketball game…where a scuffle occurred and the victim was grabbed and pulled to the floor.” CNMI DPS added, “Due to the severity of his injuries, the victim required further medical attention…”
On the gofundme page, Rena described Taracatac as a giving person who is a constant source of support, kindness, and positivity. She said, “Now, it’s our turn to show him the same love and care he has selflessly given to others. The road to recovery is going to be long and challenging, but with the right care and support, we know he’ll come through this stronger than ever.”
She added, “Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference. If you're unable to donate, please keep Web in your thoughts and prayers. Also, sharing this campaign with others who may be able to help is another wonderful way to contribute.”
Meanwhile, CNMI DPS said the incident is under active investigation by the DPS Criminal Investigation Bureau. No arrests have been made at this time.
