09/29/2025 - (PRESS RELEASE) The CNMI Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists urges the CNMI Attorney General to engage with the press in an open forum regarding issues of public concern. An elected Attorney General should not be a silent one.
It has been over a year since the CNMI Attorney General last held a press conference with local journalists. In a recent conversation with reporters, CNMI Attorney General Edward Manibusan said he would host a press conference on the condition that topics for questions are sent beforehand. Local media obliged. However, after sending AG Manibusan a list of topics journalists would like to ask about, the CNMI Office of the Attorney General informed us that the press conference was canceled.
CNMI SPJ members are increasingly concerned about the opaque view into an elected office. We urge the CNMI OAG to exercise more transparency and engage with the media in an open forum about the people’s business and what the community has a right to know about the work of the AG.
We hope to hear from the AG not only during campaign season, but also when he is doing the work he campaigned to do.
CNMI SPJ is comprised of members from all news outlets in the CNMI, including Marianas Variety, KSPN2 News, NMI News Service, and Marianas Press.
