10/24/2025 - While the next election might be more than a year away, the Commonwealth Election Commission is already preparing for it to ensure a smooth process for candidates and voters.
CEC Administrative Officer AJ Lisua and Acting Director Ashley Bornilla shared the official timeline for the 2026 General Election in an interview with Marianas Press. The last day to establish residency requirements and the first day for submission for nomination petition and candidacy is July 06, 2026.
August 05, 2026, is the last day for submission of nominating petitions and candidacy documents. September 04, 2026, is the last day for voter registration for the election, and the deadline for application for absentee voting by electronic/mail is October 07, 2026.
“CEC continues to maximize voter registration…As the election approaches, CEC will be sending out facility usage request forms for potential polling sites,” Bornilla said. She said that about 6 months prior to the general election, which is November 03, 2026, CEC will conduct voter registration drives in villages. Voter registration has been ongoing at the CEC office since the last election.
Lisua said candidates should be aware that CEC has the 2026 General Election Candidates Pamphlet ready for pick-up at their office in Susupe. “Filing fees, filing process, and eligibility are all included in the package,” he said.
