07/14/2025 - Freelance photographer and filmmaker Austin Sakairi Barcinas, based in Saipan, contributed to the BBC documentary Hold the Front Page. The series, according to BBC One, “reveals the behind-the-scenes story of Ireland’s biggest-ever sporting upset – Roy Keane’s sensational exit from Ireland’s 2002 World Cup squad.”
The first episode revisits dramatic events that unfolded in Saipan, where Ireland’s preparations for the tournament took place.
Barcinas was brought on to film both drone and ground footage on the island for the production. “The shots I filmed were used to help visually tell the story and represent the island in the final cut,” he said.
Reflecting on the experience, Barcinas added, “It’s an honor to help tell a story connected to Saipan and see our island represented on an international platform. Even through just visuals, I’m proud to have contributed to something that shares a piece of our history with the world.”
