08/11/2025 - Charity Hodson, attorney for Brandon R. Camacho, said that any suggestion that her client was uncooperative or evading arrest is false.
“On Thursday, August 7, 2025, my office contacted the Department of Public Safety (DPS) regarding their interest in speaking with Brandon R. Camacho. At that time, DPS confirmed there was no arrest warrant. Counsel informed DPS that Mr. Camacho would exercise his constitutional right to remain silent, but that if an arrest warrant were obtained, counsel would accept service and arrange a voluntary surrender. DPS acknowledged this arrangement,” Hodson said in a statement to Marianas Press on Sunday.
She added, “On Friday, August 8, 2025, at 3:35 p.m., a warrant was issued for Mr. Camacho’s arrest. DPS officers arrived at Mr. Camacho’s place of residence at approximately 5:07 p.m., and were unable to locate Mr. Camacho there. At 5:16 p.m., DPS finally made its first attempt to contact Mr. Camacho’s legal counsel, and counsel returned the call less than an hour later to arrange a voluntary surrender. Mr. Camacho has been represented by counsel and available for lawful and peaceful arrest. Any suggestion that he was uncooperative or evading arrest is false.”
The statement from Camacho’s attorney comes after the CNMI Department of Public Safety informed the press on Friday that there is an active arrest warrant for 40-year-old Brandon Russel Camacho, who was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assault and battery related to an incident caught on camera at Welcome Market in San Roque. CNMI DPS said Camacho was “uncooperative and hiding,” but later announced at 7:58 p.m. that same night that he had self-surrendered.
Marianas Press learned that Camacho is a highly decorated U.S. veteran who has received numerous combat and service awards.
This is a developing story. (Marianas Press)
