Ancestral remains repatriated to CNMI after 40 years 

11/20/2024 - Ancestral remains unearthed more than four decades ago from Saipan and Tinian returned to the Northern Mariana Islands Tuesday night. 

NMI Museum executive director Leni Leon led a local delegation to the University of California, Riverside. The remains were sent there in 1981 for radiocarbon analysis by the University of Hawaii at Manoa's Department of Anthropology. 

The NMI Museum will store the remains in its facility as it plans to reinter them near the original sites.
