The Federal Bureau of Investigation Honolulu Office is in Saipan assisting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement partners with enforcement efforts.
Marianas Press reached out to the FBI for more details about the photo they posted on social media. Marianas Press asked when it happened, how many people were arrested, and why.
An FBI Honolulu spokesperson responded, “The FBI has been committed to supporting our partners in immigration enforcement and will remain so. Since the FBI plays a supporting role in these enforcement operations, we will defer any media inquiries to our Department of Homeland Security partners since they are the lead agency.”
An ICE spokesperson responded, “FBI and other federal partners assist with ICE operations including escort/transport of illegal aliens to their immigration court proceedings.”
There are currently 11 ICE inmates at CNMI Department of Corrections, according to DOC Commissioner Anthony Torres. He said CNMI DOC has a contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to detain federal inmates. He said the Saipan facility has 20 beds available for inmates brought in by ICE.
