Our football program is built off the 100 year tradition of St. Mary's Fighting Irish football. After the 2022 championship season, St. Mary's football was no longer able to continue. After hearing about this Liam Kirwan, head football coach at Marian Central Catholic, stepped in to learn more. After understanding the situation more, Kirwan took over the program and rebranded it as the Jr. Canes football program. Kirwan who is an alum of both the St. Mary's football program and Marian Central, understood the values that have been instilled through this program has resulted in boys turning into great young men in our communities. As a result, Coach Kirwan felt that it was important to continue on with this great tradition and the Jr. Canes kicked off their first season in 2023, with 3 flag football teams and a program of about 25 kids. In year two, the program almost doubled in size and they provided four flag teams, one of which lost only two games all season and the other losing in the championship game. The future is bright for youth football in McHenry County with the Jr. Canes continuing to grow year in and year out.
