John Houshmand is an innovative guitarist and composer. In addition to his solo works, he appears on recordings by Laurasia, which he co-founded in 1973. John lives in New York's Catskills region, where the design company he leads builds "one-of-a-kind sculptural furniture out of planks, slabs, and even trunks of reclaimed American hardwood like black walnut and elm."
Kimberly Collison is a graduate of Morris Central School where her mother taught Chorus and her stepfather, Band. She attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and graduated in 2011 with her degree in vocal music education. She taught general and vocal music at Delaware Academy Central School District at Delhi for 13 years and now teaches 250 vocal music students at Oneonta Middle School. She has guest conducted and accompanied choirs for several All County festivals in Delaware and Otsego Counties. She is honored to have had the privilege to make music with these students and Mrs. Tucker.
Born in the backroom of a bowling alley in the Catskills, Lali & the Pops are an amalgamation of old school and nouveau. The Pops are seasoned musicians who have played around the region, country and world. They are a multi-genre five piece band with enthusiasm, heart, and flair. Covering a range of songs from old standards to familiar rock tunes, they are full of surprises and sprinkle in a few originals in each set.
John Van Benschoten is a primarily self-taught musician, specializing in guitar and banjo. Over the course of 25 years, he played professionally in the bands Aurora North, the Catskill Mountain Boys, the Tremperskill Boys, and with Hilton Kelly and His Sidekicks. He also played gigs at the local brewstillery previously known as Union Grove as the lead singer and guitarist for The StillMen. He has been playing banjo and guitar for 30 years, having been gifted his first banjo by his father from a flea market at the age of 17. He moved on to spend 15 years studying under Bill Keith, one of the most influential bluegrass musicians of his time.
