One School, One Book

Margaretta Elementary 2019

A Message from the principal

Starting May 1st, our school will be embarking on a special project, a community-wide book club called One School, One Book™. Every family will receive a copy of the same book – Fenway and Hattie, by Victoria J. Coe – and will be asked to read it together at home over the next few weeks. We are personally asking parents to make the time so that every family can participate in this special activity. Be sure to check out the live chapter readings and questions on this page. Don’t forget to visit our participating area businesses.

Thank you to Martha Holden Jennings Grant Foundation and Ruritan for their donations helping to make One School, One Book a possibility!

-Mr. Keven Wise, Principal

What is "One School, One Book?"

What? One School, One Book is designed to create a shared reading experience withing an elementary school community. A chapter book is chosen, every family in the elementary school receives a copy, and every family reads the book at home over the course of about four weeks. Activities at school coordinate, promote, and enrich the shared reading experience.

Why? To create a culture of literacy in every home. Research shows that reading aloud to children will help them become better readers.

Who? The entire school community and many community businesses are also going to be participating in One School, One Book

When? Be on the lookout! Your child will bring their book home in May after a special reveal assembly.
